About the club
The Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club is a proud cricket club with a rich history. The original club was formed in 1905, and has been a home for many successful Canterbury and New Zealand cricketers in that time. Burnside prides itself on its strong and loyal club atmosphere, and provides opportunities for all cricketers. No matter what you want out of the game—from a competitive and professional perspective, or from a more social and friendly point of view—we can find a place for you in one of our many teams. Currently the club has seven senior teams—competing at every level in the CCA club cricket competition—from the top mens Premier competition, through to 6th and Presidents grade competitions. The club maintains close ties with Burnside High School, and runs weekly Friday evening and Saturday morning cricket for junior school-aged boy and girl cricketers. The club has its own home ground and pavilion—Burnside Park—located between Memorial Avenue and Avonhead Road in the heart of Burnside. The home ground has four senior blocks, a practice block with removable netting, and three artificial practice wickets. The club turf manager maintains each block as well as preparing a number of junior wickets that are scattered around the park. The Burnside Pavilion, opened in 1973 is the heart of the club, and is the atmosphere is always bustling on a Saturday evening at the close of a days play. |
